Where to Get Groceries and Produce During Quarantine

Keep Checking back for Additional Updates as I find them!

By Jessica Kline, Publisher + Editor Macaroni Kid Clifton-Montclair March 31, 2020

If you are looking for places that provide organic local produce and are sure to treat you with the best care right now, here are the go-to resources. This week I have added a few additional places so make sure to take a glance & share with your friends and neighbors. I have added an * for any restaurants newly added since last week.

And don’t forget Montclair’s Farmer’s Market is still open on Saturday’s now with the option to make purchases online and pick up.

Local Resources

Adventure Kitchen, local resource for spices and more

Adventure Kitchen is the place to get the freshest spices delivered to you. While reading their site I learned that most spices at a grocery store were sitting at the manufacturer for up to a year before even reaching stores. Spices are a way not only to add flavor to your foods but can also help with your immune system. We need good quality stuff! Their products have been at the Montlair Farmer's Market (which is still open every Saturday) and check out additional products like yummy looking popsicles and more here.

The Barrow House, restaurant also offering groceries and alcohol

Local Clifton restaurant my family frequents, currently open 7 days a week, 12-8pm, offering meal and grocery curbside pick up or delivery. They'll even fill up your growler! Full list of available groceries here including produce, dairy, meats, paper goods and hand sanitizers.

Blue Hippo, restaurant and coffee shop also offering groceries

Verona’s coffee shop favorite is offering some cooking essentials on their website under “General Store” here. Ready made mixed salads, nut and specialty milks, flour, eggs, bacon, soup, produce.

Green Grocer Food Hub, a local indie grocery store supporting NJ Farmers and Makers

Non-Local Resources

Allergy-Friendly Options

AndiGrace, great option for allergy friendly snacks.

Enjoy Life Foods, my family typically buys them from a grocery store but they are also available directly on their website. As a Mom of a child with allergies means I know how important it is to have available allergen friendly resources!

Thank you Denise Kulhan who also provided us with some additional ideas...

Other things to consider:

  • Combine a delivery order with a few neighbors and friends.  Don't forget to check on any elderly neighbors who may not have access to online resources.
  • Wholesalers like Baldor and Chef's Warehouse deliver quickly and take the stress out of trying to get a delivery time slot.  They do have large delivery minimums so consider sharing an order.
  • Order from multiple sources.  Many online retailers are swamped, delaying shipments, and even canceling orders.  Spread your orders out from a few retailers so that you don't have all of your eggs in one basket (literally!) and end up with your only order being canceled. My Thrive Market, Imperfect Produce, Misfits Market, Harvest to Home are a few others.
  • If you haven't stocked your pantry, fridge, and freezer, do it now. The news keeps suggesting shopping for 3 weeks worth of groceries. Here is a great checklist of items to keep on hand (with adjustments for food restrictions/allergies of course).
