School of Rock Montclair Gives Back Through Music

By Jessica Kline, Publisher + Editor Macaroni Kid Clifton-Montclair February 16, 2022

SoR MTC recently formed a committee focused on giving back to the community through their music called the Community Outreach Committee.

Our Mission Statement:

School of Rock Montclair's Community Outreach Committee is a group of SoR staff who volunteer their time and efforts to support charities and volunteer organizations locally and nationally through virtual fundraisers, virtual performances, and live shows. In sharing our charitable efforts and encouraging others to participate, the committee's goal is to inspire our students, parents, and staff to do the same.

Former chairman, Theresa Abou-Daoud says “Since the committee was founded in April 2021, we have raised a total of $1,618 (and counting) from virtual events for varying organizations like MusiCares, Alex's Lemonade Stand, and Covenant House NJ. We collected tons of food with our July Staff and House Band show for Toni's Kitchen”. The show in July was held outdoors at Van Vleck Gardens.

Joe Billy, the new chairman of our committee gives us his insight towards taking on this new position at SoR: “Seeing what this committee has been able to do in such a short time already has been so amazing to witness. Not only have we gotten to support the people of our community, but we've also seen our own little School of Rock community become motivated and inspired to help the larger-scale community we live in. I think, to me, that has been the most special thing about this. Our plans for this year include similar feats; with a couple of live shows and live streams currently being planned. We're especially excited to be in close partnership with this year's Montclair Pride on June 11th. We'll always look for a way to do what we can for those around us”.
