What's said at a Mom Scream stays at a Mom Scream

By Jessica Kline, Publisher + Editor Macaroni Kid Clifton-Montclair March 15, 2022

Our first Mom Scream held on 2/6, 10 moms showed up without knowing what to expect and walked away with a sense of community and relief. Feeling its impact, we decided to host one final Mom Scream 2.0 commemorating the second anniversary of when our worlds were turned upside down on 3/13. Many women signed up and 13 women attended. All were expecting spring-like weather and instead, again, were met with strong winds, freezing cold temperatures, and icy conditions.

Together we formed a circle and each took a turn venting and sharing the frustrations and aloneness of the past two years. The pandemic has left us without a choice but to sit with our thoughts while we tried to keep everything together. Who had time for connection with others? As the light is shining at the end of the tunnel (fingers crossed), we are finally able to reflect on the good and the bad. Mom Scream 2.0 gave us a safe place to let it all out.

Although we showed up as strangers, we left with a unique camaraderie.

The recap for this Mom Scream was a unique bond among 13 women, all with different backgrounds and stories, who found warmth in their emotional similarities and maternal internal challenges. Pandemic or no pandemic, we need to normalize that parenting and marriage take work and aren't always as easy as people make it look on social media highlights. We need community, we need to know our own emotions and thoughts are similar to others, and we need to give and receive hugs from time to time.

Some responses from moms who attended

"A million thank yous for creating that sacred space Sunday. It was just what I needed to face the day. What a cathartic release.  If anyone feels the need to scream before the next organized event, hit me up! I will meet you in the park any day."

"Thank you so much for organizing this. It was super powerful. I would love to do other activities with this great group of moms!"

A special thank you to Dolce Marie for their generosity for hot coffee and delicious scones for all who showed up! When in Verona, head to Dolce Marie right near the entrance of Verona Park (464 Bloomfield Ave, Verona) for some deliciousness!
