A note to my daughters

By Jessica Kline, Publisher + Editor Macaroni Kid Clifton-Montclair August 3, 2023

I hope you never live in a secret world of escaping mirrors.

I hope you never base your day around how your clothes look and feel.

I hope you never waste a minute criticizing yourselves about what you eat, your exercise habits, or your water intake.

I hope you always have as much confidence that you do while on stage at an elementary school talent show.

I hope you are always surrounded by people worthy of the shine that you sparkle.

I hope you know how proud you make me and I hope you make yourselves proud, too.

I hope you always stand up for yourselves the way you always do for each other.

I hope you always make time for dance parties and always invite me.

I hope you know that mistakes are better than not trying at all.

I hope you know there isn’t just one clear correct path, you’ll get to choose each step of the way.

I hope when one of you falls, I’ll be here to help you up.

You’re growing up so fast now, I hope you know I’m here - even when I’m yelling, even when I’m busy, and even when you may feel unimportant - you’ll always be what’s most important.
