Beach Shack, nestled on the coast of iconic Cape May, NJ, has become our traditional annual summer vacation. As part of Cape May Resorts, Beach Shack is just one of their family of boutique hotels and restaurants. With its ultimate location, newly renovated rooms, luxurious pool, beach access with chair service, and optional food and drink service, Beach Shack is our suggested drivable vacation spot where you truly feel like you can unwind and create family memories.
Family Getaway Bliss
For family fun, Beach Shack does not disappoint. Truly a priceless convenience of a stress-free, vacation creating memories is easy at Beach Shack in Cape May.
As a traveling family of five, accommodations are often our biggest struggle; however, Beach Shack's accommodations fit all five of us comfortably in one room with a king-size bed, a pull-out couch, and a bunk bed (and soft sheets!).
As part of Cape Resorts, they excel in providing a wide array of options and family-centric amenities to cater to everyone like adult beach yoga and beach boot camp workouts, Monday’s iconic carnival for the whole family, plus daily art activities, and more.
Beach and Poolside Paradise
The days were always all about vacation and fun, and our biggest decision was whether we would start and end our day poolside or at the beach; after all, we had both options just steps away from our room! The hotel provided chair service, spread our beach towels, and we soaked up the sun playing on the beach, taking dips in the water, and walking on the boardwalk.
Activities Galore
Cape May Resorts hotels had no shortage of activities to keep us entertained. We walked over to Congress Hall for their consistent summer Monday night Carnival providing tickets, games, and an old-fashioned feel.
To be active and explore, we rented bikes. Plenty of options for biking with infants, training wheels, and without. They even provided a bike lock so we could rent the bikes for several days if we wanted to. Our biking experience was a bit different from last year to this year, now that my son is older.

Food Options
The Beach Shack provides a small fridge and microwave with a table and chairs outside the room. We have one early riser and it was helpful to have a place to sit outside our room for breakfast. Beach Shack does offer room service but we found ourselves walking to local spots instead. One thing we love about Cape May is there aren't any commercial businesses, everything is owned by a local and has a local feel. Our favorites included
- The Rusty Nail, with live music and firepits at night, steps from our room. No reservations.
- The Blue Pig Tavern (inside Congress Hall) which accepts reservations.
- Make sure you head offsite to Beach Plum Farm to feed pigs, explore beautiful grounds, order farm-to-table food on-site and shop at their market.
Washington Street Mall
Whether it be day or night, just with our family or with family friends too, we love exploring Cape May, especially Washington Street Mall. While some restaurants take reservations, many do not. You don't feel pressure to rush to dinner if that's not your thing. Highlights of our trip weren't just basking in the sun, we were able to walk to the iconic Washington Street Mall from the Beach Shack. There are plenty of restaurant options, a shop to make soaps, plenty of places to buy Cape May gear, lots of history, good people watching, and some trendy shops for Mom, Dad, and the kids, too.
In the end, our family getaway to Beach Shack in Cape May was a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and bonding. We returned home with hearts full of laughter and unforgettable memories. Whether for a fun-filled family vacation or an any-time escape with friends, Beach Shack truly is perfection.
