Lackawanna Station Transforms for the Holidays: 175+ Vendors, Food & Wine, Art Installations, and a Vision for the Future

Lackawanna Station will host the Montclair Flea Holiday Market, in partnership with Montclair Flea, kicking off November 30, 2024, and running every Saturday and Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm, through January 19, 2025. The market will feature hundreds of local vendors, artisans, and small businesses, offering residents and visitors a unique holiday shopping experience in the heart of Montclair.

The Montclair Flea Holiday Market begins the transition of Lackawanna Plaza into Lackawanna Station, a new community hub for local commerce and events owned and led by New Jersey-based real estate investment company, BDP Holdings. The site will evolve as redevelopment planning and approval continues. After nearly a decade of inactivity, this reactivation signals the start of a new chapter for the property.

"We’re thrilled that this iconic site is finally being reimagined into the vibrant community space that Montclair deserves, and we’re grateful to have been granted the stewardship to lead its transformation," said Jason Gleason, Vice President of Community Development at BDP Holdings. "We hope the space will serve as a lively third place for locals and we can’t wait for everyone to experience our vision firsthand, starting with the Holiday Market.”

In addition to a wide variety of holiday goods and gifts from a rotating list of vendors, the Montclair Flea Holiday Market at Lackawanna Station will offer festive food and drinks and an ever-changing lineup of family-friendly activities. On-site gift wrapping will be provided by the Montclair Modern Aging Collective and the fundraising arm for the Lifelong Montclair Center for Modern Aging. The market is designed to become a destination for holiday shopping and community engagement, and it is just the first of many initiatives planned for the reimagined Lackawanna Station.

David Placek, CEO of BDP Holdings and a Montclair resident, is eager for the site to come alive. "Our vision for Lackawanna Plaza is to create a thriving community resource that reflects Montclair's unique character and spirit. The Holiday Market launch is just the beginning—it’s a chance to showcase the site's potential while supporting makers and providing local entrepreneurs with access to the brick-and-mortar experience that can be out of reach for small businesses in today’s challenging retail environment. Our team is committed to revitalizing this space in a way that balances community needs with innovative, thoughtful development, and we’re excited to see it become a center for connection and creativity."
