People all over the world have been making music for tens of thousands of years. But many of us in America stop actively making music and resort to consuming it. We consider ourselves musical and music lovers, but we typically listen to a recording instead of a live performance or playing ourselves.
Since 1987, Music Together has worked hard to change that. During Music Together classes, young children and their caregivers gather once a week to sing and dance together. Here, music is live and alive. Families are encouraged to experiment and play with music just for fun.
Did you know that making music with your children can be more than fun? Music supports child development in many ways, and we believe "Music Learning Supports All Learning" such as
- Bounce your child on your lap
- Dance around the room holding scarves
- Engage in finger play
- Lay the groundwork for your child’s development in music, social-emotional skills, memory and language skills, and executive function (to name a few)
- Music classes are a great way to bond with your child and meet other parents
Enrolled families receive digital access to the songs we sing in class and a beautifully illustrated songbook each semester.
We bet you'll be singing and dancing your way through car rides, mealtimes, and bedtimes with your child.
West Essex Music Together has classes for babies and children 0-4 years old throughout the week in three locations (in Verona and West Orange). When you register, aside from the recorded music and songbook, you get 10 weeks of bonding with your child, a supportive family community, unlimited make-up, and wonderful teachers who will guide you along the way to family music-making.
